St Benedict of Nursia, founder of the Benedictine order of monks who built this Cathedral.
Gracious and holy Father, give us wisdom to perceive you, diligence to seek you, patience to wait for you, eyes to behold you, a heart to meditate upon you, and a life to proclaim you through the power of the Spirit of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Julian of Norwich, the medieval writer and mystic who spent most of her life in solitude as an anchoress in a cell attached to nearby St Julian’s Church. Even though she never lived at the Cathedral Priory, her name is inextricably linked to Norwich. We receive many enquiries from those who wish to learn about her life and writings.
Lord, you are God. Lord, you are in all things. Lord, you do all things. You never remove your hands from your works, nor ever will, without end. You guide all things to the end that you ordained them for, before time began, with the same power and wisdom and love with which you made them; how could anything be amiss?

Edward Reynolds, Bishop of Norwich 1660 to 1676, Reynolds was one of those who after the restoration of Charles II to the throne helped to revise the Book of Common Prayer. His most precious gift to that revision is perhaps the General Thanksgiving.
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we thine unworthy servants do give thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all men.
We bless thee for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace and for the hope of glory.
And, we beseech thee, give us that due sense of all thy mercies, that our hearts may be unfeignedly thankful.
And that we show forth thy praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives; by giving up ourselves to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all our days;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost be all honour and glory, world without end.
Amen.
