"The Refectory and Hostry at Norwich are two of the most exciting and ambitious construction projects at an English cathedral in recent years. Their detailing is utterly contemporary, yet they rise within ancient walls. Each takes the historic function of a ruined medieval building and recasts it for the twenty-first century." Hopkins Architects' design for the new Refectory
Our new Refectory opened in 2004. It has won many awards and is a stunning piece of modern architecture cleverly accommodated within the footprint and remaining walls of the original monastic Refectory.

Hopkins Architects' design for the new Hostry Visitor and Education Centre
The Hostry was designed as a sister building for the award-winning Refectory and was opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 2010. As the Refectory, it is built within the footprint of the monastic Hostry and incorporates some of the remaining wall fragments. It mirrors the original internal arrangements of its medieval predecessor with a floor to ceiling hall in the middle between two two-storey sections.
