• arranged a quiz evening
• arranged numerous lectures

• welcomed Friends from other Cathedrals.

AUTUMN/WINTER 2010-2011 EVENTS

These events are primarily for the Friends of Norwich Cathedral. However if any Friends wish to bring a friend, they would be most welcome, space permitting.  Please add £6 to the ticket price for each events for every non-member.

Tickets are required for all events and must be booked in advance.

There is limited parking space in The Close, and priority will be given to those living outside Norwich.

Unless otherwise states, all lectures will now take place in the Weston Room.  As the Weston Room has much more space, we are now able to accommodate larger audiences and do ask for your support in guaranteeing a good attendance.

The Norwich Sanctuary Map of 1541 - An Illustrated Talk by Dr Clive Wilkins-Jones

The map was commissioned by Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII's First Minister.  The Mayor of Norwich of the time had to provide a map showing places within the city walls that were assigned for sanctuary. As well as this, the map also shows the topography of the city - the gates, bridges, important streets, and secular buildings like the Guildhall.  It illustrates how single storey houses were often build in the courtyards of larger properties, with entrances via covered passageways.  it is a great rarity, as it is the only complete sanctuary map surviving. Ticket cost: £3 per person

Monday 21 February 2011, 2pm at the Shirehall, Norwich (next door to Norfolk Regiment Museum)
Hidden Treasures of Norwich Castle

Come along and take the opportunity to go behind closed doors to access the Hidden Treasures of Norwich Castle and the Shirehall.  We will meet the Curator of Decorative Arts, see the hidden gems not on show to the public, and learn about the history of the collection.  Ticket cost: £5 per person

Monday 21 March 2011, 3pm in the Weston Room, Hostry
Meet the Choir

David Lowe, the Director of Music, will show us 'behind the scenes' in the daily preparation for Evensong.  He will talk about the musical tradition, the choirs at the Cathedral and how voices are trained.  We will watch an open choir rehearsal followed by Evensong at 5.30pm in the Cathedral.  Tea and cakes will be served. Ticket cost: £7.50 per person
