The Dean is the senior member of Chapter, presides over Chapter meetings where he also has the casting vote. Whereas in monastic times the Prior was the leader of the Community, today the Dean leads the Cathedral community of clergy, staff, volunteers and regular worshippers. The Dean is also a member of the Bishop of Norwich’s Senior Staff Team. Email >

The Canon Pastor

The Canon Pastor is responsible for the pastoral care of all who come to the cathedral whether as worshippers pilgrims visitors or volunteers. He oversees the ministry of welcome and the arrangements for baptisms weddings and funerals. He is also priest-in-charge of St Mary in the Marsh which is the parish of the Cathedral Close. Email >

The Precentor is the ‘Preces Cantor’ or ‘singer of the prayers’. Today he is the canon responsible for the ministry of worship which includes the liturgy (planning and organising services) and music Email >

The Canon Librarian

The Reverend Dr Peter Doll

The Canon Librarian is responsible for the ministry of learning. He is in charge of all aspects of learning including the Library and work with schools and the community. Email >

Non Residentiary Canon (Bishop’s appointee)

The Reverend Canon Phillip McFadyen

Phillip was an art student in the sixties. He trained as a book illustrator and qualified as an art teacher before reading two degrees in theology. He taught theology in Sheffield and later in Norwich while engaged in country ministry for nearly thirty years. He was Chaplain to the Norfolk Broads and deeply involved in a ministry to visitors. He has written several short commentaries on New Testament books and remains committed to communicating the gospel through the arts. He is priest in charge of St George, Colegate in the city of Norwich and the Bishop's advisor in visual theology.

Dr Bryony Falkus

Bryony qualified as a solicitor In London and practised there for several years before moving to Norfolk in 1990. Bryony became a partner in Mills & Reeve specialising in corporate law. In 1995 Bryony became a governor of City College Norwich and was made Chairman in 2004. Bryony is very interested in supporting the education and skills agenda in Norfolk and is especially supportive of the 16-19 year old group.
