Everyone who is part of the life, work and worship of the Cathedral is a member of the Cathedral community including regular worshippers, paid staff and all volunteers.
This living community seeks to share the beauty and holiness of the Cathedral with all who come, and to live out the Cathedral’s Benedictine mission of worship, hospitality and learning:
- in daily services and in pastoral care
- in social events (see Newsletter or email Angela Capper)
- in learning activities, such as running a Sunday School
- in helping with the running of the Cathedral, whether as paid staff or volunteers
- and in reaching out to welcome all who come to the Cathedral as visitors, pilgrims or worshippers.
John Aves Education Project
The Cathedral Community is a supporter of the John Aves Education Project. Founded as a result of a visit to the Holy Land in 2003/2004 by the late John Aves, the project seeks to empower disadvantaged young people to fulfill their potential through educational achievement in order for them to better serve their community.
Pastoral Care
Members of the Cathedral community take time to get to know each other, support each other and ensure newcomers feel welcome.
They play a key role in helping the Cathedral reach out to the wider community, they support several local charities both financially and practically, and they seek to promote international links with churches abroad. As well as meeting regularly for worship, members of the community have the opportunity of joining one of the prayer and study groups which meet regularly through the year.
Coffee and tea are served every Sunday in the south transept after the 10.30am Sung Eucharist. All are welcome.
Should you wish to speak to one of the clergy please have a word with any of them after a service or contact Canon Richard Capper, our Canon Pastor.
